Sergi Cano Gesé completed his MSc in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management at Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2021. His MSc thesis was focused on how alpine marmots affect vegetal communities in the Pyrenees. He is an environmental biologist specialized in mountain habitats and their mammals communities, particularly mesocarnivores and micromammals.
Recently, he has been involved in various projects in the Catalonian Prepyrenees such as a wildcat (Felis silvestris) monitoring station in Serra d'Ensija with the carnivores catalan research group FELIS-ICHN and conducting field prospectings of weasels (Mustela nivalis) and stoats (Mustela erminea) in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park among other projects. Additionally, he is currently working on developing a new micromammals sampling system in alpine areas.
He enjoys working shoulder to shoulder with colleagues to devise new approaches of collecting field data that could be useful for conservation purposes.
During the last months, he has joined the Museum's Bat Research Group, where he calculates population trends, develops R codes and contributes to the elaboration of conservation plans for endangered species.
