Pou Marçal

Support Technician of the SEMICE Project

Marçal Pou Rossell is currently doing his PhD at CREAF (Centre for Research on Ecology and Forestry Applications). His work is based in Lleida, where he is studying behaviour plasticity and intelligence in wild jackdaws (Coloeus monedula) using novel methods based on technology. His research focuses on understanding how animal behaviour and intelligence influence population demographics. He finished his bachelor’s degree in 2018 in environmental sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In this period, he was involved in analysing the carbon footprint generated by the presence of Supplementary Feeding Points destined to vultures in the Alinyà Mountain (Iberian Peninsula, NE). During his master studies in biodiversity at the University of Barcelona he studied the integration of a brown bear in the Central Pyrenees (Iberian Peninsula, NE) after a translocation using its monthly, seasonal and annual home ranges and activity patterns. He investigated how GPS data from a Slovenian brown bear individual can explain the integration in a new environment after almost three years from its translocation. Throughout his career, he has been motivated about the conservation of wildlife, animal behaviour and their interactions with the environment. He has acquired interest in the required skills for research in bird and mammal ecology, through complementary studies and field trips related to biodiversity, besides his experience in bird ringing. Since 2019 he is collaborating with the Natural Sciences Museum of Granollers, involved in the SEMICE project as a field technician.
